Vedanta Aluminium Emerges as India’s Second-Largest SEZ Goods Exporter
Jharsuguda SEZ Contributes US$3.5
Billion in FY2025-26 Exports, Serving Customers Across 60+ Global Markets
New
Delhi, September 2026: Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest aluminium producer, has emerged as India’s
second-largest Special Economic Zone (SEZ) goods exporter, with its SEZ in Jharsuguda,
Odisha, contributing approximately US$3.5 billion in exports during
FY2025-26.
According
to the company, this contribution represents around 6% of India’s total SEZ
goods exports, marking a significant milestone for India’s manufacturing
and export ecosystem. The development comes as services continue to account for
a substantial share of India’s overall SEZ exports.
Expanding India’s Global Manufacturing Footprint
Vedanta
Aluminium’s products are exported to customers in more than 60 countries,
including markets across Europe, the United States, Japan and Southeast Asia.
Demand
from these international markets is supported by the company’s ability to meet
stringent requirements related to product quality, environmental performance
and regulatory compliance. Its aluminium products cater to global customers
across automotive, aerospace and industrial applications.
Rajesh
Kumar, CEO, Vedanta Aluminium, said:
“This
achievement is a testament to the consistent quality of our aluminium and its
ability to meet the stringent standards demanded by global markets. As India's
SEZs play an increasingly vital role in the country's trade story, we remain
committed to expanding our capabilities and contributing to the nation's
ambition of becoming a global manufacturing and export hub.”
Diverse Portfolio of Aluminium Products
Vedanta
Aluminium’s export portfolio covers a broad range of primary and value-added
aluminium products.
These
include billets, wire rods, rolled products, primary foundry alloys and
ingots, along with the company’s low-carbon Restora aluminium range.
The
products serve applications across several major industries, including automotive,
aerospace, electrical, construction and packaging. Demand is also emerging
from newer applications associated with renewable energy, electric mobility,
AI infrastructure and data centres.
SEZs Strengthen India’s Export Ecosystem
India’s
SEZ sector continues to play an important role in the country’s international
trade. According to trade figures compiled by the Export Promotion Council
for EOUs & SEZs (EPCES), Indian SEZs recorded approximately US$134.4
billion in combined goods and services exports between April and December 2025.
Services
accounted for approximately US$84.5 billion, or nearly 63% of the total,
while goods exports stood at around US$49.9 billion, representing
approximately 37%.
The
figures highlight the complementary role of services and manufacturing within
India’s SEZ ecosystem, with both contributing to the country’s expanding global
trade footprint.
Manufacturing Gains Greater Export Significance
Vedanta
Aluminium’s performance highlights the increasing contribution of large-scale
manufacturing companies to India’s export ambitions. The company’s presence
among the country’s leading SEZ goods exporters reflects the growing role of
metals and manufacturing in expanding India's international supply-chain
participation.
With a
diverse product portfolio, established production capabilities and customers
across major global markets, Vedanta Aluminium’s Jharsuguda SEZ is contributing
to the development of India’s manufacturing-led export ecosystem while
supporting demand from industries undergoing technological and energy
transitions.
