In 2023, Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) Helicopter Factory in Tumakuru, expressing satisfaction that thousands of weapons and defence products are being produced in India and that Made in India weapons are being provided to the armed forces. The HAL Helicopter Factory is proof of the nation's expanding domestic capabilities and the Government's commitment to achieving "Aatmanirbharta." Over a 20-year span, it will produce more than 1,000 helicopters weighing between 3 and 15 tonnes, doing business to the tune of more than Rs 4 lakh crores. Senior members of the Ministry of Defence as well as Chief Minister of Karnataka Basavaraj Bommai attended the event.
