The Section Of Mathura Road In Delhi Is About To Do Rid Of Its Traffic Signals.

The Delhi Public Works Department (PWD) has decided to remove all traffic signals along the Mathura Road stretch to reduce the traffic congestion and make it simpler to travel between the central and southern parts of the city.

For the convenience of commuters, the Public Works Department (PWD) plans to do away with all five of the traffic lights that are now located along this stretch and install four underpasses that allow U-turns.

Officials have said that the work is being done as a component of the ongoing reconstruction project for the Pragati Maidan corridor. Because the stretch of road contains various Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) sites like Purana Qila, development is prohibited along that portion of the Mathura Road.

In addition, it is home to the National Zoological Park and the Crafts Museum. According to a senior PWD official, "we have thus decided to remove the traffic signals and execute back-to-back u-turns to offer respite to commuters while also ensuring that no monument is disturbed."

"The traffic on the Mathura Road begins from the ITO 'W' point and continues to Sundar Nagar, Kaka Nagar, Lodhi Road, and other localities. "The lights have always contributed to the heavy and slow-moving traffic along this stretch," the official said. According to the official, the U-turn underpasses would also allow direct access to the parking lot of Pragati Maidan and the administrative office and other locations.

Officials have said that in addition to two more underpasses on Bhairon Marg that would travel underneath the railway track, one underpass will be constructed at Tilak Marg, and a 1.2-kilometre long tunnel will be constructed at Pragati Maidan to decongest the whole region. According to the authorities, the total length will be available to the public by May.
