According to A. S. Sahni, Chairman of Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), the demand for petrol in India is expected to peak by 2035. Speaking at an industry event on Wednesday, he noted that the shift toward electric vehicles, the continued practice of ethanol blending, and the increasing use of gas-powered vehicles will exert pressure on petrol consumption.

Conversely, the demand for diesel and aviation fuel is expected to continue growing, driven by industrial development and the expansion of the aviation sector. Sahni also indicated that the demand for fuel oil and petroleum coke, which together account for 30% of total refinery output, is likely to rise.

Meanwhile, the IOC is exploring new technologies, including small modular nuclear reactors. The objective is to identify clean and more efficient energy solutions for the future. However, any final decision will depend on their commercial viability.
