PM Modi positioned India as a global manufacturing hub and urged Japanese investors to enhance their presence in this country.

At the Indo-Japan business meet in Gandhinagar the PM said, over the last three years, we have worked very hard on the front of ease of doing business. A series of administrative reforms have significantly improved the business sentiment in the country. These reforms and initiatives are all aimed at preparing India for the 21st century.

Speaking at the event, in the presence of Japanese PM Abe whom he described as a great friend, Modi urged Japanese businesses to invest in India and use the resources the country offers.

Japan can benefit tremendously with the size and scale of our potentials and skilled hands that India offers. To allow entry of capital and technology, we have worked hard on opening our economy. Today, India has one of the most liberal FDI regimes in the world. More than 90% of the FDI approvals have been put on automatic route.

To facilitate Japanese investment, India has set up a Japan Promotion Board office in Gujarat.

A number of business pacts were signed during Abe's visit. The two sides launched a project for the first four Japan-India Institutes for Manufacturing. The two PMs welcomed Suzuki Motor's plan to set up India's first lithium-ion battery factory in a joint venture with Toshiba and Denso as well as a new production line at the automaker's vehicle manufacturing plant in Gujarat.
