539 central projects run into time over runs: Govt to Parliament.
Out of 1,739 central sector projects, 539 projects are
having ?me overrun and 209 projects are showing both
costs overrun and ?me overrun, as of February 1, 2021
This was informed in the Parliament
Of these 209 projects, 109 are in railways, 24 in roads,
transport and highways sector, and 21 each in power and
petroleum.
According to sta?s?cs minister Rao Inderjit Singh who told
Rajya Sabha, "The reasons for delay are project-specific,
depend on a variety of technical, financial and
administra?ve factors, and differ from project to project.”
However, delay in land acquisi?on and forest clearance has
been one of the important reasons for delay in the
comple?on of the projects as reported by the project
implemen?ng agencies. The delay in comple?on or ?me
overrun in respect of the original schedule of the Central
Sector Infrastructure Projects is one of the important
reasons for the escala?on of construc?on cost.
In a separate reply, he also said that technological
interven?ons like 'Computer Assisted Personal Interview'
(CAPI) has been introduced to reduce the ?me lag between
comple?on of field work of survey and publica?on of
results. Further, the ministry of sta?s?cs and program
implementa?on is developing a General Survey Solu?on
called 'e-Survey Instrument and Generalized Mul?modal
Applica?on' (e-SIGMA) and real ?me valida?on that would
reduce the ?me lag.
