Narendra Modi: "We Need Energy Self-Sufficiency"
On the 76th Independence Day, PM Modi called for energy independence and self-sufficiency.
The answer for a country that imports 85% of its oil and 50% of its gas is alternative energy sources, such as renewable electricity, hydrogen, and electric cars.
To reduce dependency on foreign oil, the government wants to add sugarcane-based ethanol into gasoline.
PM Modi stated India blended 10% ethanol into gasoline early.
Encouraged by the accomplishment, the administration moved the aim to 2025.
Supplying 20% ethanol will save $4 billion yearly.
Increased blending would enhance renewable energy usage in the world's third-biggest oil importer and user and help transform excess rice and damaged food grains into ethanol.
According to the oil ministry, 2 million tonnes of crude oil were replaced in the first three and a half months of the current fiscal year, which started in April. 2.14 million tonnes of crude oil were replaced in 2020-21 and 1.34 million tonnes the year before. 2013-14 saw 0.27 million tonnes.
