India's Renewable Energy Target For 2031 Requires An Additional 225 Gw Of Capacity.
According to the draught National Electricity Plan issued by the Central Electricity Authority, India needs to install 224.9 GW of renewable energy generating capacity by 2032 to fulfil the peak demand and energy need for the financial year 2031-32. (CEA).
By December 5th, 2022, stakeholders are expected to have provided their feedback.
India has built 159.81 GW of renewable energy capacity, including big hydro. It is expected that in 2026–27, India will need 1,874 billion units (BU) of electricity and reach its peak demand of 272 GW, while in 2031–32, these numbers will rise to 2,538 BU and 363 GW, respectively.
Expected electricity generation from various renewable sources has been estimated at 667.2 BU by 2026-27 and 1144.4 BU by 2023-2032 based on projections of capacity addition targets from renewable sources by 2026-27 and taking into account a renewable capacity addition of 224.9 GW between 2027 and 2032.
By 2031-32, renewables will account for 45.09 per cent of the energy produced in the nation, up from 35.6 per cent in 2026-27.
