Bangladesh has requested a revision of the 2017 power purchase agreement with Adani Power Ltd. since the cost of the coal to be purchased from Jharkhand is excessive. The BPDB sent a letter asking for revision after receiving a request from Adani Power to open LCs (Letters of Credit) in India to import coal for the 1,600 MW Godda plant. According to the spokeswoman for the ministry of external affairs, Arindam Bagchi, the agreement is between a sovereign country and an Indian firm, and they are not parties to it. Adani Power needs a demand note from BPDB to be given to the Indian authorities before opening Cs against the import of coal because their project is aimed at energy export to Bangladesh.
