BEML Unveils India’s First Indigenous 60-Ton Electric Dump Truck
BH60-EV
combines 54.5-tonne payload capacity, a 1,000 kWh battery and zero tailpipe
emissions for demanding mining and infrastructure applications
Mysuru: BEML Limited has unveiled the BH60-EV,
India’s first indigenously designed and developed 60-ton electric dump truck,
at its Mysuru Complex. The launch marks a significant step in the company’s
development of high-capacity electric mobility solutions for the mining and
infrastructure sectors.
The
next-generation electric dump truck was virtually launched by Shri Shantanu
Roy, CMD, BEML Limited, in the presence of the company’s Functional
Directors, senior officers and employees. Developed at BEML’s Mysuru Complex,
the BH60-EV combines high payload capability with an advanced electric
powertrain and operator-focused engineering.
Designed
for demanding heavy-duty applications, the electric dump truck produces zero
tailpipe emissions during operation and is aimed at supporting the
transition towards cleaner and more efficient mining and infrastructure
equipment.
High-Capacity Electric Powertrain
The
BH60-EV is powered by a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM)
integrated with a rugged gearbox and a 1,000 kWh high-voltage lithium-ion
battery pack. The electric powertrain provides high tractive effort and
instant torque to support heavy-duty operations, including applications
involving gradients and challenging site conditions.
The truck
offers a payload capacity of 54,500 kg with a rock body and a volumetric
body capacity of 36.4 cubic metres, combining high material-carrying
capability with electric propulsion.
Designed for Efficiency and Lower Operating Costs
BEML has
engineered the BH60-EV to improve energy efficiency while reducing dependence
on conventional diesel fuel. The platform is designed to deliver a high
power-to-weight ratio, strong acceleration and gradeability.
According
to BEML, the electric dump truck can deliver 40–60% lower operating costs
compared with conventional diesel-powered equipment, depending on operating
conditions. The company estimates that each vehicle could potentially reduce
annual carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 130 tonnes, subject to
operating conditions.
Integrated Charging Solution
Alongside
the vehicle, BEML offers a complete charging station solution designed
to integrate with site electrical infrastructure and scale for fleet
operations.
The
integrated approach is intended to help mining and infrastructure operators
transition to electric heavy-duty equipment while providing a charging
ecosystem aligned with their operational requirements.
Focus on Safety and Operator Comfort
The
BH60-EV features an ergonomically designed cabin aimed at improving operator
comfort during extended operations. Safety systems include a Roll-Over
Protective Structure (ROPS), emergency steering and sealed oil-cooled disc
brakes.
These
features are designed to support safe and reliable operation in demanding
mining and infrastructure environments.
Expanding BEML’s Electric Equipment Portfolio
Commenting
on the launch, Shri Shantanu Roy, CMD, BEML Limited, said the BH60-EV
represents an important milestone in the company's development of
next-generation electric mobility for heavy industry.
He
highlighted the company's focus on indigenous engineering, advanced battery
technology, performance, safety and sustainability in developing high-capacity
electric equipment for mining and infrastructure applications.
The
BH60-EV follows BEML’s 35-ton Electric Dump Truck, launched on 10
April 2026, and further expands the company's portfolio of electric and
sustainable heavy-duty equipment.
With the
new 60-ton electric dump truck, BEML is strengthening its capabilities in the
design and manufacture of next-generation machinery aimed at supporting the
evolving requirements of India's mining and infrastructure sectors, as well as
potential global markets.
